Girl Band – Top 5

Have you ever wondered what a noise rock cover of Blawan’s ‘Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage’ sounds like? Look no further than Dublin’s Girl Band; whose sound consists of equal parts of cacophonous walls of guitars, no-wave mutters and driving rhythms.

Not to mention new single ‘Lawman’, which lands somewhere between No Wave and Punk Funk, calling on vintage Frank Black for vocal assistance amidst a maelstrom of HARDCORE buzzsaw guitars.

Alan Duggan explains how the proverbial dots of influence are joined below.

Girl Band play the Crane Lane Theatre on Feb 1st

Full Irish/UK tour dates available at:

1. Scott Walker – Scott 4

I don’t really know why to be honest, Sorry. (No need to explain, I’m sure – Ed.)

2. Factory Floor – s/t

Saw them live at Electric Picnic last year. Great live show.

3. LCD Soundsystem – Drunk Girls [Holy Ghost Mix]

It’s outrageous amounts of fun.

4. The Minutemen – Double Nickels On The Dime

Got this record for Christmas, been listening to it a lot recently.

5. Swell Maps – Get Down And Get With It

I love the whole thing really. But I think it’s the third verse, when they go ‘we’re going to Chigaaaaargo’, one of my favourite things ever.

Girl Band’s new single “Lawman” is also out now on Limited 7” and Digital download. Buy or download it here:
