Several years after first playing the Marquee in Cork (in what was one of the best ever gigs at the big top), Nick Cave returns with Grinderman for a headliner at the venue on June 20.
A cracking live act, Grinderman takes the dirty, rocked-up sleazier moments of the Cave/Ellis combination and thrashes it out in a manner not befitting gentlemen of their years. Needless to say, it’s great and makes essential listening and viewing.
This is the first Harmonic gig announced for the 2011 Marquee series with rumours of a second at some point over the coming weeks. We’ll keep you posted.
Tickets go on sale this Friday (Feb 4) at 9am and are just shy of €50.

This is great news. Never seen Nick Cave yet and I was despairing of the Marquee having any decent acts on this year after noting what has already been announced. My faith in the promoters has now been restored, can’t wait.

I wonder is anyone else going to be added to the bill for this. Be great if it turned into something like last years Harmonic gig with Grizzly Bear and the rest. Probably too much to hope for.

Come on then Bronson, who would you like to see added? Going to have a good think about this. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of a suitable warm up band for this one, but I’m sure there are plenty out there.

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion would be a killer addition. Maybe I should just go to Primavera…
