Cormac O Caoimh lays down his Top 5 for us

The tricky thing about a list of top 5 favourite songs is (1) that it changes on a daily basis and (2) that it is a list of songs…so some of my favourite acts that have made some of my favourite albums have not made this list (today). In particular I’m thinking of Nick Drake, Bic Runga and Bonnie Prince Billy, who probably have made some of my favourite albums

1. Go-Betweens – Bachelor Kisses
One of my favourite songs from one of my favourite bands.

2. Elliott Smith – Waltz No.2
The first time I heard this song was hearing Paul Tiernan do a cover of it in The Lobby years and years ago. I loved it and after about a year when the melody and chorus was still stuck in my head I thought it was time to check out the original. Loved that too and bought all his cds.

3. The Beach Boys – God only knows
I’m not a Beach Boys fan or indeed a huge fan of Pet Sounds. But this is a great song.

4. Ger Wolfe – The Curra Road
If someone asked me my favourite Cork singer-songwriter, I’d say Ger Wolfe. If someone asked me my favourite Irish singer-songwriter I’d say Ger Wolfe. If someone asked me my favourite singer-songwriter alive or dead from anywhere in the world…I’d probably say Nick Drake …but Ger would be close enough to the top of that list too. I wanted to pick ‘Call me down’ but I couldn’t find it anywhere.

5. The Four of Us – Gospel Choir
I supported The 4 of Us last week and it was a great night. If you have not seen them in a while you should definitely catch them again. You’d forget how many great songs they have. Of all their great songs..this is definitely my favourite.
