Galway drummer Thomas Delaney has been in a million cool bands over the years and is currently busting the funk for abrasive hardcore/punk beasts Bacchus, and has recently teamed up with the sludgey, monolithic RITES. He gave us his five fresh flavoursome faves.

Celeste – ” Un miroir pur qui te rend misérable ” from the Morte(s) Nee(s) lp (Denovali)

Glyn Scrawled turned me on to this French band. What an album! What a song! These guys make shit of everyone. Ive not seen them live yet but hopefully 2012 will change that. The vocal style & production are just perfect. Thats usually what puts me off most BM tinged stuff but these guys nail it. Superb song writing too. A seriously weighty double lp worthy of any heavy music fans record collection. If vinyl isnt your buzz then you can download it for free from http://denovali.com/celeste

Griever – “home again alone again” from the Inferior 10″ (Vitriol)

There are lots of bands that you cant listen to when driving in the van because they sound awful on the speakers. This band isnt one of them. We must have listened to this ep 20 times on tour. Great band & such a whopper guitar tone. http://griever.bandcamp.com

Red Fang – “wires” from the Murder in the Mountains lp (Relapse)

I was late to the party with this band but better late than never. Cracking album & for me this song & “hank is dead” are the stand out tracks on it. I been waking up to this guitar intro playing in my head everyday! They’re old hairy dudes too which is always a plus. TAKE THAT YOUTH! These guys are old enough to be your da (one of them might even be) & they riff harder than your shitty band haha. I just bought the lp two days ago & cannot wait until it arrives.

Big Business – “grounds for divorce” from the Here comes the Waterworks lp (Hydra Head)

This album is one of my all time favorites & this track is probably the best on there (although there are so many crackers). The lyrics are class. Anytime Im drinking this record gets a spin. Saw them play a combined set with Melvins in Roisin Dubh a few years ago & it was amazing. Beast of a drummer & this is a beast of a song.

Thou – “voices in the wilderness” from the Archer & the Owl lp (Robotic Empire)

What can be said about this band that hasnt been said already. Their discography is as thick as the bible & they get better & better with every record. This track was on the cd version of the summit album from 2010 (it didnt make it to the vinyl version) so its class that it made it onto this lp. They’re such a ferocious band. Thats down to two things – Bryan being the most intense front man ever & then you have guitars which are so devastatingly heavy & then out of nowhere they change into these euphoric voyages into space. Amazing stuff.
