We were talking about dusting off cassette decks the other week (in relation to When Good Pets Go Bad, go here).
Well news arrives today of more tape-fuelled rock ‘n roll awesomeness, specially for Record Store Day on Sat Apr 21st. It’s from Patrick Kelleher, minus His Cold Dead Hands this time, and consists of six Doo Wop covers, including beauties from Eddie Cochran, Rosie & the Originals and The Teen Queens, among others.
Handclaps, glorious “ah-wee-oooh” interludes, male falsetto and rudimentary percussion abound, all in a warm bath of tape hiss (how appropriate). Kelleher’s voice has never sounded so good and the whole package is likely to remind you of why you fell in love with pop music in the first place.
There are just 50 copies of this limited edition cassette, simply titled Ghost Wop Cassette, on Long Lost Records, but you can nominate your own price for the digital version over on bandcamp right now. Details are also a little sketchy on where the lucky few can lay their hands on the physical copy, but we suspect your local independent record retailer (Elastic Witch, Plugd etc.) would be a good place to start the hunt.
Now all together, “Ooh I love you, ooh I do, no one could love you like I do“…
