Diabetics might be wise to steer clear of Dott’s debut EP Button, to be officially released on May 17th via Popical Island, due to high sugar content.

There is an innate sweetness to the retro-pop on offer with knee-bending melodies, heart-warming harmonies and earnest lyrics such as

“Let’s do it, let’s fall in love”,
“If we plan it right we could leave tonight”

and
“I close my eyes / and you’re with me when I dream”

Dott’s pop goodies don’t just melt, they snap and crackle too. A lo-fi, fuzzy, more alternative sound merges with the band’s pop sensibilities. The lyrical content, although sweet, is often of the bitter variety.

“I’ve been watching you for days / Patiently while you delay”
or
“It’s not it’s not it’s not it’s not it’s not the same without you”

Overall, Button presents happy sentiments with a melancholic edge which engage rather than perturb the listener.

Upcoming gigs:
Thursday May 17th – Róisín Dubh, Galway with support from Elk and Bouts
Friday May 18th – Eamonn Doran’s Tavern On The Green, Dublin with support from Tierannisaur
Thursday May 24th – Bourkes Bar Limerick, with support from HAL
