A new Dublin-based crowd called Mia Sparrow got onto me there earlier with their new for-streaming album. It’s lo-fi plinky-plonky stuff with slack-jawed vocals but has a kind of rough edge to it and plenty of lovely weirdness. It’s kinda sweet with a distant sadness in there somewhere, like seeing a haggard Hello Kitty buying hash off a scut at the bus station. There are some cool touches added here and there and I think I hear a stylophone (which will titillate or irritate depending on which side of the Rolf Harris fence you stand), and they’ve included my personal fave “Summer Slang” as a video below. The band are seemingly making the right waves in Dubland so expect to see them doing some of the festival circuit this summer.
