Jonathan Pearson is the drummer and vocalist from Cork band, Former Monarchs. He has recently turned his paw to more minimalist writing and has appeared with his new project North Side Drive.
A solo project consisting of Pearson on piano and guest strings players, the North Side Drive EP will appear in July 2012 which will showcase the first compositions that he has penned. The emphasis is on fusing classical influences with contemporary genres, taking inspiration from artists such as Sigur Ros, Efterklang and Nils Frahm.
“The name North Side Drive comes from when I was on a drive with two friends a few years ago and we happened to be by Blarney when one of them suggested the name. I liked it and I’m not particularly comfortable with using my own name as a musical thing so I went with it, after consulting a few trusted people.”
A full launch campaign will take place this summer in support of the new release, with provisional dates booked throughout Ireland. A track off the aforementioned release is available for free download on his bandcamp (http://northsidedrive.bandcamp.com/)
North Side Drive plays The Roundy with Tim Fitzgerald on Wednesday, 2nd May at 9pm.
