Ahead of their debut gig at The Pavilion later this week, Cork duo Young Wonder (producer Ian Ring & vocalist Rachel Koeman) split the workload and give us a Top 5 + 1
Ian’s 3
1. SBTRKT- Something Goes Right (feat. Sampha)
I love all the different influences you can hear in SBTRKT. There’s no way of boxing it into a genre because it’s simply one of its own! It’s so fresh with the amazing vocals from Sampha, it just makes me smile and appreciate.
2. James Blake – CMYK
I love this track for so many different reasons. That warm analog filtered synth that builds up through the pitched and chopped vocals just takes my imagination away with it. I could have it on repeat for ever.
3. Ambassadeurs – M.O.P.E
If electronic music and Hop Hop were to have a baby together this would be the outcome. Or if the king J Dilla came to back to life and decided he was going to produce electronic music, I think it would sound something like this! All jokes aside this is probably one of my favourite beats of all time, there isn’t a night that passes when I don’t play this DJing.
Rach’s 3
1. Black Light Dinner Party – Gold Chain
An amazing synth filled fun, feel good song; love to sing
along to this one in my bedroom! Love its bassline and warm synths.
2. Chrome Sparks ft. Stefaloo – All there is
One of my favourite songs at the moment, the chopped up
vocals sound amazeballs. Love the harmonies on the vocals, Stefalloo’s voice is great.
3. Grimes – Vanessa
This lady has the most amazing voice, so different from anyone else out
there at the moment. Her use of vocal loops live is astounding!
Young Wonder play The Pavilion on Thursday May 10th, with Keep Shelly in Athens & Sacred Animals, and later SertOne vs Stevie G DJ sets, as part of the Feel Good Lost 1st birthday
