We hadn’t heard from Popical Island in a while til the other day (just in terms of Earth minutes…).
So we were delighted to hear on the internet blower about an upcoming new release by Ginnels. That’s Mark Chester of Grand Pocket Orchestra when he has time off from the day job, and friends.
Their new album comes out in August on Popical Island and you can check four songs from it now, below. This is how they describe the music themselves.
Like your dickhead neighbour drowning out your Byrds and Feelies records with his poorly recorded noise ‘jams’ with his stoned mates, except actually good.
I think that’s great and I’d only add the following –
-Parts of the sampler sound like a slightly more-together Grand Pocket Orchestra.
-I think I detect the sound of Bronwyn’s (from GPO) vocals in the great wall of sound toytown mini-symphony ‘It’s not a summer (without you)’.
-I am obviously smitten by the song called ‘This is Conor’.
