Cork promoters Alliance Promotions stage The Urges/The Vincent(s)/Nagasaki Suntans in Triskel tomorrow night – we asked Alliance to reveal themselves…

Who are Alliance Promotions and what do you do?
Alliance Promotions are an independent promotions duo (Gordon O’Keeffe & Dave Deasy). We concentrate on alternative Irish music and want to promote local talent. We choose to put gigs on in intimate venues. So far we have showcased September Girls & When Good Pets Go Bad, Cheap Freaks in Plugd Records. Then Ghost Estates & The North Sea in TCD in the Triskel last month. Before that we use to put on gigs in the Crane Lane with bands like Funeral Suits, Precolator, Vital Spark & Zombie Computer.

Who are The Urges and why should we care?
The Urges are a garage band from Dublin. They have toured through Europe & the U.S supporting such bands as The Sonics. They are about to release a new album and the new tracks are very layered and everyone will pick up the different influences that have helped form the band, a 5-piece, in 2007. Rock n Roll, Soul, West Coast Psych, deep searching lyrics and superb playing by all five. The use of brass & string arrangements can be heard in their new sound.

And the other bands on the bill?
The Vincent(s) have been around for a while in Cork as Daphne in the Attic. This is one of their first gigs under the new name. They have lots of different musical interests & trying to describe their music is slightly tricky – blending folk and grunge in a unique way. They play “Voodoo Swamp” and “Rockabilly Pop” and “Grunge Core”.

The other bad that night are Nagasaki Suntans (they win the prize for best band name this week – Ed.). They are a 2 piece punk poetry band also from Cork. Nagasaki Suntans’ rhythm and rhymes deal with awkward subject matters which many people would choose to ignore, but each gig feels like a cleansing of the soul which leads to a healthy mind.

What else is in the pipeline for Alliance?
In August Noize Kulture Cork in conjunction with ourselves are having ChillWave • Glo fi • Electro Pop night in Cyprus Avenue. Slow Magic, Zombie computer, Reid & Sad Soul Circus. This is going to be a great night that Noize Kulture have been planning for a while & we are happy to give them any help we can. In the coming months we have many more gigs planned but for the moment we are keeping our cards close to our chest but you are guarenteed lots of great bands & a couple of surprises!
