New Music from Doxy (Ex Policy)
Wicklow band Policy caught our eye last year.
They’ve been in touch with news of a name change and some new songs.
This comes in the shape of the superbly-titled 4-track EP Shoulder high in gibberish, now under the name Doxy and recorded with Eoin Whitfield of Enemies at The Hive in Kilcoole.
Although we’re not sure about the name change, there are no qualms about the tunes. In keeping with last year’s Policy EP, these songs have a shambling, literate quality of a Pavement with the rowdiness of a Wedding Present, full of narky guitars slathered in muted distortion.
We suggest going straight for Track 3, ‘No kissing’, a fantastic blast of spiky guitar pop. It doesn’t really possess a chorus, just an unending series of memorably antsy, singalong verses.
Get it into you.
